So I’ve had these for a bit and really no longer have a use for them. I’ve been out of the L1a1 game for awhile so I figured I’d get some advise from y’all. The lower is a Brit and I believe the handguards are Aussie. Thanks in advance!

Those are British laminate handguards, much more rare than Aussie examples.

The lower was salvaged and force-matched to another rifle along the way...I don't know if that affects the value at all, but it's an interesting example of something known to happen in the L1A1's long service history.

So I ended up buying this set and I have a couple of questions for the forum. The buttplate is painted black, but I have not seen that before. I thought all wood stocked guns were parked and when they went to plastic in 1968 the black paint started. Also the hand guards are marked 1971, and again I thought wood was gone by then. So my first thoughts are that maybe the handguards were made for a contract not for the UK armed forces or maybe the UK reserves still used the wood awhile later. Thoughts? Either way, i consider this a score.
