Where was that at, and why the big lattice crane? It was my honor and privilege to clean up this mess one day when I was supposed to be doing something else.
Actually three different times I did this, three different derailments, but this time is the only one when I took photos.

I was maintenance superintendent in a large coal mine in South America for a few years. We had a rail way to the port facility (110 miles) but I had all the cranes and equipment to deal with a derailment, which the rail company did not. Their problem then became my problem.Where was that at, and why the big lattice crane?
That bunch of non turbo 567 engines had to sound good. SW8's with the V8 567 had their own sound too.
We have essentially the same thing that runs through the Adirondack's between Utica, NY and Thendara/Old Forge.
Yeah they sounded great! I really miss all the noise from the yard. A friend of mine was good friends with a lot of the guys that worked there. We were in the shop one time and they had one of the big diesels torn down. I knew they were huge but I had no idea. Man, those cylinders were big as 5 gallon buckets. Since they closed the yard they've torn up a lot of trackage around here and turned it into Rails-to-Trails. They've torn down a lot of the trestles, too. My buddy and I used to walk that trackage and walk across the trestles. That bunch of non turbo 567 engines had to sound good. SW8's with the V8 567 had their own sound too.
