Where was that at, and why the big lattice crane?
I was maintenance superintendent in a large coal mine in South America for a few years. We had a rail way to the port facility (110 miles) but I had all the cranes and equipment to deal with a derailment, which the rail company did not. Their problem then became my problem.

I live close to the old P&S yard. I used to go down there and sit and watch them for hours at a time. I loved listening to the crews talking on their radios. This one was taken at Markle Pa in October of 1985.

That bunch of non turbo 567 engines had to sound good. SW8's with the V8 567 had their own sound too.

I was down in Cass this summer for vacation and had a great time. I’m also really excited about Reading 2102 running again this year.

We have essentially the same thing that runs through the Adirondack's between Utica, NY and Thendara/Old Forge.
They have these 4 place pedal cars that ride the Rails...really cool! So much so, I'm thinking of building my own little go-cart or pedal car.

Narrow gauge railways at Port Hartford, Avila Beach in Central Coast of California. Little beach town where I grew up. Only a few sections of the right of way and a backfilled tunnel remained by the 1950s. All my paternal uncles worked "on the railroad" in the 1930s, 40s and 50s (except for a few years during WWII).

Yeah they sounded great! I really miss all the noise from the yard. A friend of mine was good friends with a lot of the guys that worked there. We were in the shop one time and they had one of the big diesels torn down. I knew they were huge but I had no idea. Man, those cylinders were big as 5 gallon buckets. Since they closed the yard they've torn up a lot of trackage around here and turned it into Rails-to-Trails. They've torn down a lot of the trestles, too. My buddy and I used to walk that trackage and walk across the trestles.

When I lived in SW Fort Worth, the Fort Worth & Western (FWWR) would come thundering past my apartment a couple times a day. I could count on the Tarantula and the Cowtown to come rampaiging passed the apartment conplex about the time I took the dog for a walk in the evening.
