Got some work done on the guard today.

Let's look at the 'too big' version vs this one.

I would have thought that it's almost the same guard. But it's hard to tell in pictures. Maybe the front is a hair shorter?

It's missing half an inch off both ends and probably about 1/4" thinner on each end.

Yeah...pictures are a problem.

What is the purpose of the small hole in the back of the blade? Still trying to figure that out. Looks to be too small for a bottle opener.:whistling::biggrin:

Forge season commences!

Got a lot done on this knife today.

I am going to try to explain the uber-complicated guard-bolster arrangement on this knife, but this might go sideways...sorry.

Here we see the forward-facing part of the guard after welding the bolsters to the guard.


That will make no sense at all until you see a different view so...


And finally the shot from the other side...yes, there is grinding necessary here...

It isn't etched in those photos.
If you were to hold it and look at it closely you would see the patter in the reflections.
I wanted to post those pics as the 'lines' of the blade tend to disappear after the etch.
The blade is now etched and I am happy with it. A reveal later this week when I get the handle finished.

OMG, that is one pretty knife. I am afraid if it was mine it would stay locked in the safe - too beautiful to take the chance to scratch it up using it. Great job Stimpy; the new owner is going to be proud of having that one.

Sheath is nearly done.

I drilled the belt-loop holes at 50 thou...not realizing my needles are 50 thou-ish.
We'll drill up another 30 thou and try again tomorrow.

The metalwork has been an obsession longer than I care to think about it. The leatherwork is more recent...as knife collectors appear to want married carriers.

The metal I understand.
The leather I struggle with.
