Fantastic

my disappointment with the salvo is the limitations on velocity

I wanted to river bottom hunt whitetail in my area…it’s semi residential. The velocity ratings killed it for all of my hunting slug loads…

that’s all I wanted it for…

so now I have some expensive wall decor

Still a fun can…I just don’t shoot much shotgun

The manual suggests the max velocity for 16” and longer barrels should be no more than 1550FPS. Seems generous. What were you shooting?

Reduced recoil slugs are available. 1-oz. projectile at >1400fps, some nominally 1200 fps.

Sorry…I should have been specific.

I’m running a 14” SBS. This puts me at 1350 for max velocity, which puts me in to the realm of reduced velocity loads. I’ve had mixed results with the reduced power stuff at the 50-75 yard range.

I ran renegade…ran some Winchester super x 1 oz slugs that the box rates at 1550. Blew a baffle out; catastrophic failure of the aluminum baffle; ruptured the bottom of the first baffle. Edited…memory failed me. Second baffle.

I would love if somebody made a 1.5 or 1.75 oz slug at 1100. Keep the energy, and the quiet. I found a MEC charge master for a good deal…I might try to roll my own.

You most certainly can load your own.

For me, 1116 fps, or thereabouts is where I start to see some occasional sonic cracks.

So, if I keep them below 1085, doesn't bother anything regardless of season I shoot them.

1085 fps for a 1 oz slug, will still kill anything on the north american continent.

I had a chance to fit up the Salvo on my 28" Mossberg 500 and no surprise that thing is loooong. 60.5" overall length. Looks funny but doesn't mess up handling if you're doing trap shooting.
I'm on the hunt for a <20" barrel cut for Accu-choke. Gunbroker has a couple but I'm not ready to spend money today (paid some hefty bills recently).

Finally, an 18.5” barrel cut for Accu-Choke
I had my reservations about the barrel since it is aftermarket production, but it was a good tight fit in the receiver. Parts went together no issue. Headspace? I don’t have any gauges and it’s a rimmed cartridge so I’m not that concerned

I know a few guys who have both bought and built them.

They are heavy. Though, I don't think they have to be as heavy as they are.

And while they do lower the Db of the sound, they're still not exactly quiet.

And as has already been pointed out, you can make it more quiet by loading your own to below subsonic levels. I am not aware of any commercial shells loaded that slow.

She shoots fine. The brass bead sight on the barrel popped off after a few shots. May fit it up with a red dot sight.
Silencer does have some interesting effects on the shot pattern-
1. Tighter shot patterns than without silencer
2. Recoil reduction (a bit obvious with a 2lb silencer)
3. Blast noise eliminated sonic crack remains (obvious)
4. Big smiles

I haven’t tried shooting slugs through it yet but soon enough. IMG_1983.jpeg

SiCo Salvo 12

Quick video of the Salvo 12 on an 18” Mossberg 500. The silencer definitely muffles the blast as expected. The shockwave from the shot and wad are the loudest noise. Noise reflecting off trees at the back end of the trap range is pleasant. If shooting on a typical range, the noise reflected off the berm is quite loud and might be unbearable without ear protection.

...
Best use case for shotgun suppressor is if you are shooting in a confined space like a hallway, or indoors.
Touching off a full power 00Buck load in a hallway is brutal on the ears.
An integrally suppressed 18 or 20" shotgun would be ideal.
Suppressor laws in the US are stupid.
The National Association of Ex-Wives is already lobbying against them. :devilish:;):censored:
