I have a pvs 14 coming soon, have picked a crye nightcap for a harness, have not picked a mounting system yet due to limiting options as I understand them. I have limited vision in my left eye and all the options I see for a monocular are for the left eye [ j arm]. Only option I see is to get a dual set up and only use the right side.
Not looking to break the bank on this ,but dont want to cut myself short on the utility end either. Anyone out there with experiance in the matter have suggestions on where to start?

Whether you use a j arm blade or dovetail mount it will have a knob or button where you can swing it to either eye. I have a usgi norotos rhino and j arm I'll sell you if you want. I went to a knockoff Wilcox

I just set up my PVS14 I won in a raffle. I opted for a bump helmet instead of the skull cap. Too many online comments about the skull cap and how uncomfortable it is. I also went with the same as Eben is selling, simply for the cost. Wilcox is higher dollar and more high speed and low drag upper tier stuff. Other stuff to consider is a battery pack or pouch (depending on your unit) and how to mount it to counterweight the NOD. With the helmet, it is easy, not sure about the skull cap. Also ear pro, what are you going to need to wear them with the skull cap. On the helmet, you can attach the ear pro muffs directly to the helmet withan adaptor, so you have everything as a single unit. Oh yeah, start looking for two infrared devices - a decent IR laser illuminator to be mounted on the rifle, and a decent NVG compatible optic. My laser is the Holusun LS 221. Steiner and several other brands are available for $400+ more than the Holosun. Most receommendations for the optics ware for the EoTech EXPS3 with the EXPS3-4 version being the best (500 yard BDC reticle) and NOD compatable. I had a Trijicon TriPower laying around and found that the tritium illumination was sufficient for the PVS14 to see. so save a bunch by using that.

In reality, everthing I needed turned out to be a buy and try method. I would buy what I thought I needed/wanted, try it out and then go with something that worked better. Of course I do the same with buiding and setting up a rifle. That's why I have trays of spare parts in my shop.

I have a nv compatible rds, tested with my buddies nvg, works fine. have a mitch hemut if I feel the need to get a neck strain, although I dont have a mounting system for it. ordered a crye night cap to start off with and go from there. New world for me. My buddy has a gen 3 green that I was able to use and really was surprised by being able to walk in the woods at night relativaly easy and see over 100yds in a cleared area. thats what sold me on the whole idea. I'm finding out ,its like building a precision rifle[ how much money do you want to spend] its a whole other rabbit hole!
Big diferance between ir light on the unit and a rail mounted ir light [ no pun intended] its like night and day. I also checked out ir lazer possibilitys, yea another 3 hun min and up for the lazer and then another 3 hun for a rail mounted light. maybe by spring I'll have it all together.

I,d be cheaper to have both my ex wives move back in than finish this project. although you never get your moneys worth with women, used when you bought them and resale just goes down hill from there.

Every J Arm I have ever seen for a PVS 14 has a knob on the front you unscrew, push the mount forward and rotate into one of 4 positions, including over on to the other eye. One thing I would caution is the springs are usually cheap and will break if you overtighten the knob too much.

As one physician who worked on night optic development told me, when using the PVS 14, keep both eyes open and allow the brain to blend the image and unless you have an eye issue, you will get some depth perception.

As I tell everyone from my experience using night optics all the time, just get it over and get a proper Team Wendy Exfil LTP helmet with Wilcox mount already built in and get the Team Wendy counterweights for the back of the helmet. These helmets are super comfortable and adjustable. It's retarded to buy a multi thousand dollar optic and then buy a cheap ass knockoff helmet off of Amazon that doesn't work well.

On the subject, I need to raise some cash to put electricity in my new warehouse/garage building. To that end, I'm putting one of my PVS-14s and my PVS-7Bs up for sale at SAR this weekend. Of my three PVS-14s, one is L3 Harris, one an ITT and the third one has no data plate. Is there a way to find out who made it without major disassembly? Visibly, I can't tell any difference in their performance.

The 7Bs have a printed model number and a hand-written serial number, but no manufacturer on the data plate. I think I got them from a member here a few years back. Any way to tell on those as well? It's hard to price them without knowing exactly what they are.
