Greetings all, I'm hoping to get some idea of sale/trade value on a recently acquired M1 Garand. Early in the Summer I ordered two Rack grades from CMP. These are my first garands, so I know little in the way of determining value of them. I picked one of the two for keeping and will likely sell the other or trade for/towards a mix-master L1A1. If more pics will help, please let me know. My bore pics failed but it is mirror bright with no pitting or frosting, no T&E but passes the bullet test. Thank you in advance.

Choot it. I've considered one but having to stock another caliber holds me back. Looks like a nice little project.
How does any red-blooded American not stock 30-06?!?! That's like not having bourbon in the house (or on your person) and ribeye in your fridge/freezer at all times!

I guess I'm a closet fag cuz I can't stand bourbon either after a few TKOs it gave me back in the day. But I do have some ribeyes.

Actually, it's why I like 308. If you stay below 168 grains, then 30-06 is not an advantage. If you start wanting heavy boolits to start using the case volume, then you don't want an auto loader is the way I see it. Hell Don't even have an M-14 clone right now.

You’re not wrong, except for the bourbon & M-14 parts! 😂. 308 is 99.5% of ‘06 but in a short action, which I prefer as well. Plenty of M1s chambered in .308!

Almost 30 years ago, I witnessed a scene at a local gun shop when this doof was trying to get his friend to buy a hunting rifle, IIRC, his FIRST hunting rifle, for the trip they were going to later that year. The doof kept trying to push this friend into a Weatherby in a large, "different" Weatherby caliber with a huge price tag to match. The savy gun shop owner saw the friend's exasperation with the rifles he keep denying and to save the sale, he brought out a Browning Safari in stainless in .30-06 with a Leupold 3 x 9 scope to put on it. "This is what you need", he said. The owner then gave told us the famous, sensible quote, "The only thing I have against a .30-06 is that you have no excuse to own another rifle." I laughed out loud, but yall know that it's true. There is NOTHING in the Western Hemisphere that a .30-06 cannot kill.

Of course, we have to own many different rifles, but if you can have only one.......

Also, Brother Seasmoke, keep both Garands. You may have a young, special family member who would love to have , use, value and keep it until he can pass it on, and that will be more valuable to see his face when you lovingly give it to him than a few scroungy dollars, easily blown and forgotten, you will get from selling your rifle for less than what it is worth.

Probably about right. And if it's high it will be right this time next year. These things are going nowhere but up, as are almost all quality milsurp rifles. K98s, Krags, Swiss straightpulls, Springfields, Enfields, even Mosins. Particularly the Finnish ones, but even the Russian ones are a long ass way from the fifty bucks you could buy 'em for not long ago. SKS, if ya like comblock stuff. Get 'em now while ya still can. I've been wanting a Martini-Henry basically my whole life, Atlanta Cutlery had a room full of 'em they were blowing out where you could basically walk up to a pile of 'em and pull one out, or maybe three. Screwed up big time and put it off. Gone, too bad so sad.

yeah, the only thing nastier than American Whiskey is Irish Whiskey. Only way to make it palatable is to blend it with a lot of Scotch.

And yeah, I converted all my Garands to .308. Compared to .30-06 GI ball, 7.62 Ball has a longer range, flatter trajectory, and is less expensive. Why anyone would use the obsolete cartridge by choice?
