Where is the best place to find GI stock sets these days? Just picked up an IHC garand but it's got a commercial set. Would love to find it a usgi one but not sure where is the best place.
You know you're right. If the stock has Tru Oil on it which made it glossy, at least it's affording it some protection from outdoor weather.
If you're facing whatever's in that Mike Minihan story, do they care if your stock is USGI?
I used Tru Oil on a 1903 stock one time. Unlike BLO it actually dried, and it dulled in time as I handled it. That rifel is lying around the living room, so I pick it up all the time. Either that or I got used to it and don't notice if it's glossy any more.
That's a CMP Garand. What's wrong with it?
I'm with Mebs & the others counseling that if it shoots satisfactorily, then take your time on researching a method to reduce the 'shine.Nothing really just ridiculously shiny
Some fine steel wool and a little mineral spirits might help with that. Otherwise, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.Nothing really just ridiculously shiny
It isa nice looking gun. If it were mine, I would leave it as it is.
Try 0000 steel wool and just buff it down a bit.Nothing really just ridiculously shiny
Wood is wood, so long as the species is the same and the profile of the stock correct.Wood was not intended to be a lifetime relationship with a battle rifle. It lasted until it didnt, then was replaced. They stopped making USGI stocks a long time ago. There is no shame in your game.
