I have a local bear that is getting on my truck and taking bags of feed.

And leaving trails of garbage and half consumed feed bags etc.

Need to spray something in the area that will tell her to look elsewhere.

The Cubs are cute but have only gotten within 6-8 ft of them.

Bears constantly hunt food just like hogs do, when they run out of food they will move on. Anything they can root up they will eat. With youngens in tow she will keep lookin for food for them too. Don't feed em if you don't want them around but they will root all around the house until they are sure there is no food. In the car, in the house or even dog food they will root. It's their nature.

Might call and have them relocated if they are destroying property.

Feeding bears is always a bad idea. You, humans, get associated with food and they eventually will become food. You need to secure your grain/feed in a bear proof enclosure, not going to be cheap though. The Yogi bear syndrome is real, nuts and berries yuk. The cubs are learning from their mom that your place is a good place to get food.

Cayenne pepper may work according to some things I've seen/read, but if they are hungry enough....

May be worth a call to the DNR or other, the USDA does handle some bear trapping around here, mainly for crop damage (corn fields).

Keep your feed out of their reach. Store it in something they can't get into. Feeding them, even distantly,is a very bad thing,as they become dependent upon it,generationally, and you really want them to be able to fend for themselves in the nature.

Our area had a dismal mast crop last fall and as a consequence of that black bears began roaming into inhabited areas seeking food. We had four beneath one of our pear trees last fall. Don't feed them! Your state wildlife agency is likely the least expensive and most human way to deal with your bear problem.

Sorry to tell you, nothing gets rid of a hungry bear.

Not ammonia.

Not pepper spray.

What you are describing is what we have had to put up with for the last 15 years.

In my state, they could even fine you for unintentionally feeding the bears because they get into your trash and they are more protected than humans.

Since most people in my area have grown tired of having unanswered calls until 3 days after the initial report, most people use 22lr to the gut or if they are secluded enough, a 12 gauge to the boiler room and use the triple s method.

Shoot.

Shovel.

Shut up.

PS. If they have cubs, they will not travel far and will keep coming back on a short loop through the area. Usually about every 3 days.

It takes almost a full year for the momma to push out the cubs. So, you'll be stuck with them a while if they found your garbage bin.

At that time, they are often coming into heat again and ready to mate with Poppa bear again who will be more than happy to oblige and the routine starts over again and she will keep coming back to the garbage piles that she has learned where they are and will bring the next generation to the same places to show them were your trash is.

Pss. Don't get close to the cubs. Momma will eat your face if she gets scared enough or feels cornered. They can run about 35mph and are a lot more agile than many people think. A scared bear is a dangerous bear.

here the game wardens will trap them and move them, if you shot one, tell the wardens because if they find out they will put you in jail.
Here, they put you in jail if you shoot them anyway, and aren't likely to trap and relocate them anyway, so that's why most people cherish the right to remain silent about it and not having to incriminate yourself over it.

Wrong wrong and more wrong.

Get rid of the bear you need to get rid of the food opportunity. You “shoot, shovel, and shut up” it’s just a matter of time that another set comes in to take advantage of the food source. In my AO it is mandatory to have bearproof trash containers. They’re called bear boxes. Invest in one. They work. Dogs do a good job at keeping them away as well. They hate dogs and see them as a bother. Bob, let me check the bone yard once it melts out. There maybe a bear box or two in there. I’d gladly pass one on to you. Just don’t kill the bear.

I put out my game camera on its tripod but the chip in it was too small and all it took were out of focus pics of me setting it up.

I saw this one last night about 11pm, it's a brown, black bear where the others were actually black and the Cubs were black critters.

No worries I'm not going to kill any of them.

I didn't see a firecracker round, but those are used to scare bears and a beanbag round should sting.
The DEEP here use dogs and firecracker rounds to “condition” bears to avoid humans. There be bears in the woods behind me. There weren’t any when I bought the property 30 years ago. We don’t have bird feeders anymore ‘cept for hummingbird feeders. Trash is stored in a locked garage. I could sss if necessary, but will make the determination when I need to.

To control pests of all types...

Control the food source. If there is food all creatures are lazy and will take the path of least resistance, to food as well. Make the path more difficult than some other, and they will choose that.

Beyond that you have kill or trap and relocate. That's about it.

The 2 above apply to every pest there is... bears, pigs, raccoons, birds, bugs, and democrats.

It doesn't work on Democrats.. They breed too fast
