Have a new Bula standard M14 receiver with bolt and usgi profile 19.5" barrel. This will be kinda enjoyable. Have not put a standard together in some time. There are quite a few stocks to choose from in the stash. I am thinking of maybe one of the T44 stocks with the M1 butt plate. Will see what happens as progress is made. Looks like plenty of small parts in the drawers, trigger groups, op rods, sights and flash suppressors. Just need to decide which will make it onto the project.

Update. This time I am doing a before accuracy enhancements and then another after updating the rifle. Right now it is just a plain M14 in a USGI fiberglass stock with regular trigger and non-unitized gas system, no shims either. No stock work at all. This is what one might expect direct from Bula Defense Systems for a standard build. This barrel is NATO headspaced to 1.636. Ammo is hand loaded 135 gn Sierra varminters. Fired 50 rnds of MEN German surplus rapid fire for function test and to warm things up nicely. Then switched to home brew ammo and fired for a 10 rnd 100 yd group. Max spread is right at 1.25 moa. Well within 10 dot challenge accuracy before any additional work. Whatta Hobby!

Update. 19.5 used barrel was not doing what I wanted so I changed it out today for a Bula Defense Systems Heavy 1/10 22". Rifle is now bedded in a NM Walnut stock and looks promising. Ran 100 rnds dow range this afternoon to settle things down. Shot this MR-31C as my last target of the day. X ring is 3/4". So 6 hits on the X ain't too shabby for a dinosaur. Whatta Hobby!

I liked it in the fiberglass stock. Would have shot good enough for me. Some day I’d like to get me one of those famous Art rifles.
I keep that fiberglass stock hanging in the shop along with a dozen other types. Just have to find the right one for the right purpose.
Next for this rifle will be better quality bullets in the load. Tomorrow I plan on loading a bunch of Berger 155 gn Hybrid Target. Should have no problem dropping them all in the X ring on a MR-31 C if I do my part. I like to get my M14s performing almost as good as my bolt rifles, almost. Now that I am fully " retarded " my time is not limited. For decades I have enjoyed taking these rifles to the next level and being consistent otc. No cherry picking 3 rnd groups for this boy. Whatta Hobby!

Goal with this project is now to come up with just the load that will keep them all in the X ring on an MR-31C. I do enjoy setting high goals, reaching them, and then working on into the area that M14s are not supposed to be capable of. Whatta Hobby!

M14’s can be accurate guns if done right.

If I were not such a fan of the FAL, an M14 would be one of my next choices.
