Theres a rumor that these are made of substandard material that wasnt case hardened like the receivers and that they bend and become unreliable over time. True or false?
I have heard that they run on the soft side. I don't know about substandard materials. I do know that the Army adopted the specs of this style op rod as the standard for the M1, after Remington made the NM op rods.
Remington operating rods were used from 1961-69 in both the Match and rebuild Ordnance programs. I've owned NM examples marked on the handle and those that were not so marked, and haven't come across any documentation to indicate there were issues. Verifiable documents, or sources, would be needed to support such a conjecture.
