Nice. Glad you got it working good. Besides destroying the collectability, many people don’t want to mess with it that much. They want to start with something closer to what the end result they’re looking for.
Mosin numbers are finite. There’s lots of buba’s out there, and one of the reasons why their value/cost is up.
Just for the record it was a non matching mixmaster a previous owner had already d/t the receiver for a rail, cut the original bolt handle off, added a clearance notch in the stock and refinished it when I got it so there was no collector value left for me to destroy.
I simply finished what someone else started.
I'm happy with the end result.
No regrets.

I’m not certain if this one is collectible but it’s an Izhevsk, matching numbers on bolt, barrel and lower receiver. 1948 date on it with a hammer and sickle right above the bore.

Only thing that appears off to me is the B SQUARE rail where a leaf should be. I assume the B stands for Bubba

1948, last year of production IIRC.
Stock looks like it has been sanded and refinished also.

Those B-Square mounts usually aren't a permanent thing. You could likely locate a rear sight assembly somewhere and return the rifles back to its original configuration if you wanted to.

The rear sights are usually a flat spring, rear sight, elevation slider, and a pin to hold it in place. They're a lot like Mauser rear sights.

This could solve your whole problem: https://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/MOSIN-NAGANT-M38-M44-REAR-SIGHT-ASSEMBLY-p7990.htm

Thanks for the feedback guys. Found a new Howa 308 22" with a scope for 570 shipped on Lockedloaded. Went ahead and took care of my issue. @Story I'm trying to keep my carapace cracking calibers down to just a couple types before the alien invasion. Mosin's gonna go in storage for a while. It's a cool gun though

The Mosin is built like a Ford 8N tractor and very peasant proof. May not have a whole lot of class but it's built tougher than woodpecker lips

And like Non Conformist's rifle, with a good trigger and good hand loads they will impress you. For me it's just like, why?

With surplus ammo, yes.
Feed it modern commercial or handloaded ammo and it's no worse than any other 20" barreled rifle in a comparable chambering.
They could be gussied up right nice back in the day if one was inclined to do so. This is my sportered Polish Wz44 bedded in a Fagen walnut stock with a Timney trigger and a low profile bolt handle design borrowed from the Finn TKIV 85.
Yes but how does it shoot?

I sold off EVERY commie caliber gun long ago because without legislation an executive order could pinch the entire supply chain. Well, sonovabitch....
Yeah I did too. Sold it all and bought a '98 Krag in original military dress. Not sure it helped with the supply chain issues but it's a whole lot more fun to shoot.
