Putting together a group buy for .22 cal. FAL conversion kits.

Price is $429 each plus shipping. Each kit includes the barrel insert, complete bolt group and 1 magazine.

Extra magazines will be $49 each (bear in mind that you are essentially buying 2 magazines combined into one) or $35 each if built on a magazine body sent in by the buyer. I will not exchange magazine bodies, the buyer will receive the exact same magazine bodies that were sent in for conversion. If you desire to buy extra magazines, please specify if you want all-new .22 magazines or new internals only built on your magazine body.

Full details and photos are available here:

$30 for custom length barrel (shortened from 21"). If you haven't already, please specify your desired barrel length in your post. I'll update the list with the barrel lengths already requested.

I will need full payment up front from each buyer to get the parts produced.

Deliveries will all be made at one time, within 90 days of full receipt of the group buy funds. Once production begins, I will make regular updates showing progress of the various kit components.

Each kit carries a 1 year warranty against defects in material and workmanship.

State what length barrel you want, 21" or shorter. If no specific barrel length is requested, the default will be a 21" barrel. Likewise, unless you specify, default is the metric kit.Sign-up list is below.

What is the price for a kit with a liner shorter than 21"?

I'm definately interested (as I'm sure many are) if the price is somewhat close to that of the 21" kit.

Thanks, jb

I'll get you a price on a shortened liner of any length.

What happens if you get less than 55 takers? It'll be a shame for this project to just die.
That's pretty much it. I am not in a position to make all these kits without having already sold them. So the minimum must be sold or this will not get off the ground. So I hope all or most of those posters that indicated they would pick up a kit in the earlier thread come through. We'll see.

How are we ordering this kit from you? Are you going to post that the minimum amount of kits to be sold has been met then ask for all buyers to mail in their funds?? Just curious how the actual buying process will go down. Thanks. I'm looking forward to having some fun with one of these.

What .22lr brands have you tested in your prototype? Have they all worked, or only some of them? I know conversion kits for other firearms can be very picky about ammo, and I would rather not get a $400 kit only to find out that I can shoot only one brand which is never stocked anywhere.

Also, have you run into any issues with the barrel liner sticking? I think I have read about other conversion kits' barrel liners getting stuck in the barrel after prolonged use (maybe the British version?).

1) So far, I've only used WallyWorld Federal .22. I don't think that this ammo is exactly the champagne of .22 caliber and the kit ate it without a hiccup.
Also, this ammo or its equivalent is easy to find so no worries there.

2) No problems with a sticking barrel liner even after firing several hundred rounds. I suspect the problems reported earlier with military kits may have been caused by leaving the liner in a barrel that hadn't been thoroughly cleaned (no disrespect meant to the prior military users) and subsequent corrosion locking the liner in. Maybe someone here on the Files has military experience with the kit and can chime in?

I forgot to ask, Can you say on the invoice that it is kitchen cabinet hardware? That is what I'm supposed to be buying with this money.

I will take one kit and some (3-4) extra mags when they come out.

Where are all the other people who were clamoring for kits? The more people we get on board, the cheaper this is going to be.

ETA: a 21" liner is fine with me.

I've had a fair amount of experience with military .22 conversion kits, but they were for M16's, so they didn't have a barrel liner, just a chamber insert. However, I think a good way to prevent sticking would be to wipe the outside of the barrel liner with Mobil-1 synthetic lube, probably the 15W-50 viscosity would work best for that purpose. It's designed to lubricate the internal parts of automobile engines without breaking down and will withstand extreme temperatures and pressure. I've been using it to lube all my guns for about six months, and it works better than ANY commercial gun lube on the market. It also doesn't evaporate or leave any residue, and stays where you put it. I think it would be great for preventing an FAL barrel liner from sticking, and I plan on using it on my FAL kit. I'm already using it on all the other parts of my FAL's that need to be lubricated, and it also works great for preventing rust.

What the heck, put me down for 2. My brother, who I love dearly, will thank me later at Christmas when I give him his. Hopefully I'll have let him shoot mine a few times to get a good case of fal envy going before hand then give him his. I love him- that don't mean I don't mess with him every chance I get......

EDITED FOR BARREL LENGTH: make both standard 21" for Imbel/Springfield barrels. Will it work in an STG and an L1A1 as well as the Imbel bbls?
